About
Practical structure for how projects and programs are run
Jolsen Advisory is a firm that works with organizations undertaking projects and programs across multiple industries, helping them strengthen project controls, establish project-management processes and PMO capabilities, improve reporting and forecasting, and implement practical business solutions.
Business Needs Come Before Tools
It is easy to start with a platform (a new reporting tool, a new template, a new system) and work backward toward a justification. We start the other way around: with the business need. What decision is this information meant to support? Who needs to see it, and when? What happens today if the answer isn’t available?
Only once that’s clear does it make sense to talk about process, reporting structure, or supporting technology. Technology is in service of the work, not the other way around.
From Individual Projects to Organizational Capability
Practices that work well on a single project don’t always scale to a portfolio. As more projects are added, it becomes harder to maintain consistent controls, reporting, and reliable data across all of them. The goal is to give leadership a clear view of overall performance while still providing the detail needed to understand individual projects.
One way to describe that shift, shown here as an illustrative progression:
- Project
- Multi-project
- Program
- PMO / Organizational Capability
Connecting Project Knowledge with Practical Technology
Project and program knowledge often lives in the people running the work: in spreadsheets, inboxes, and habits that are hard to see from the outside. Making that knowledge visible and durable usually takes a combination of clearer processes and well-built reporting or automation.
We work across common business platforms and existing technology environments, without treating any one of them as the only answer. The right tool depends on what an organization already has in place.
Built for Useful Outcomes
The measure of our work is that it holds up in practice: the report gets used, the forecast gets trusted, and the process survives contact with a busy week. We aim for structure that is useful first, and durable because it is verified and reliable.
